Welcome to 5e Jump Calculator, a small online tool created to fix a common D&D 5e table slowdown: working out jump distances.
If you’ve ever been the player who halted the action to look up the exact jumping rules, argued over whether a running start is enough, or tried to remember which stats affect jump distance, this tool was built with you in mind.
What Is 5e Jump Calculator?
5e Jump Calculator is a free web tool that turns the official 5th Edition jumping rules into instant numbers.
You enter a few details about your character—including Strength, height, and situational modifiers—and the calculator instantly shows your:
Long jump distance
Maximum high jump
Effective reach while jumping
Key distances based on the 5e rules as written
No guesswork, no mid-session rule dives—just clear results you can rely on.
Why I Built This Tool
This site was inspired by actual game-night problems.
As a D&D fan who runs and joins games, I often hit the same situation:
A character wants to do something cool and cinematic with a jump, everyone stops to argue about the math.
The 5e rules for jumping aren’t especially complicated, but they are easy to forget. I didn’t want to keep re-explaining the same rule, so I did the sensible nerd thing: I built a calculator.
5e Jump Calculator began as something I used just for my home games, and then I decided to share it in case other tables were running into the same slowdown.
Under the Hood (Without the Jargon)
This tool uses the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules as written in the PHB. In simple terms, it:
Uses your Strength to set how far and how high you can jump
Considers whether you have a running start
Uses your height for realistic reach calculations
Respects the rules as written, without adding homebrew assumptions
You don’t need to know the exact formula. The calculator takes care of it and gives you the final, table-ready numbers.
How to Use It at Your Table
5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:
Fast enough to use mid-session
Clear enough for new players
Accurate enough for rules lawyers
You can use it to:
Verify a jump before the roll
Plan interesting movement options during encounter prep
Resolve player stunts without bogging things down
Just enter the stats and read the output. It’s meant to support your game quietly, not become the focus of the session.
Where This Might Go
Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is kept lean on purpose: it handles jump distances cleanly.
In the future, I might:
Add more 5e movement-related tools
Cover more special abilities and conditions
Polish the interface and add small quality-of-life features
If you spot something off, or if you have a suggestion, to reach out. This site is meant to make your games smoother, and your feedback helps shape what it becomes next.
Thanks for checking out 5e Jump Calculator. I hope it saves you a few minutes—and a few arguments—every session.
